Barnard's Star

Barnard's Star (GJ 699) is a low-mass red dwarf about 6 light-years away. It is the 4th closest known star after the three stars of Alpha Centauri. Characteristics:

• 17h57m48.49847s - right ascension.
• +04deg41m36.1139s - declination.
• +9.511 - apparent magnitude (V band)
• 5.96 ly - distance.
• M4.0V - spectral type.
• 0.162 - mass(solar).
• 0.0034 - luminosity(solar).
• 0.187 - radius(solar).
• +1.713 - B-V color index.
• 10 arcsecond/year - proper motion.

An extra-solar planet (GJ 699 b) has been announced as confirmed in 2024, discovered through the radial velocity method, and three additional exoplanets were confirmed in 2025. These do not match an earlier candidate that was announced in 2018.
