The Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) was a NASA Small Explorer Program (SMEX) ultraviolet space telescope launched in 2003 and active until 2012, operated by JPL. It remains in low Earth orbit, expected to remain there until at least 2068. The aim was ultraviolet exploration of the observable universe to investigate star formation in galaxies. Among the surveys were conducted with it:
