Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy
(CARMA)
(former array of radio telescopes in eastern California)
The Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy
(CARMA) was an interferometer array of 23 radio telescopes
with a maximum baseline of 2 km.
It was located at Cedar Flat, near Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO),
in the Inyo Mountains, California.
The array carried out observation at wavelengths 1 mm, 3 mm, and 1 cm.
It was in operation from 2004 to 2015.
It utilized existing telescopes transferred from other sites,
such as the OVRO Millimeter Array at OVRO.
Since CARMA's decommission, there has been some re-use of the telescopes.
ALMA (in Chile) is the newer, similar array with improved capability.
