SPHERE (for Spectro-polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet Research, VLT-SPHERE) is a multi-part instrument on the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (ESO VLT) designed for direct imaging of extra-solar planets. It includes an extreme AO system and coronagraph that feed into its three sensor instruments:
