A solar telescope is a telescope designed for observation of the Sun. The aperture may be small because light collection is generally not a problem, but a good angular resolution is of interest. The coronagraph was developed for solar observation as a means to view the Sun's corona. A number of solar telescopes have been space-based:

Re the ground, the National Solar Observatory and the High Altitude Observatory operate solar telescopes.
