Seyfert galaxy

(visible active galaxy)

A Seyfert galaxy is an active galaxy in which the rest of the galaxy that surrounds the active galactic nucleus is visible. It likely received the classification for being obviously a galaxy, but with evidence of the active nucleus such as emission lines, whereas a quasar is a more distant example discovered as point-like from the AGN emissions. Seyfert galaxies were noticed before quasars were first observed.
