OIR

(optical and infrared)
("band name" that means both visible light and infrared)

The term OIR (for optical and infrared) covers both optical astronomy and infrared astronomy and is used for efforts covering either or both these bands, e.g., research efforts, telescopes, or observatories. The mirrors of visible light telescopes can focus infrared light so with infrared-sensitive instruments, they can cover both bands. Also, the same phenomena viewed in visible light nearby is detected in the infrared at somewhat further distance, due to redshift.
