LUVOIR

(Large UV/Optical/Infrared Surveyor)
(plan for a space-based telescope)

LUVOIR (Large UV/Optical/Infrared Surveyor) is a concept under study by NASA for a future space telescope, operating in ultraviolet, optical and infrared. Its infrared range would be at the near-infrared end, not requiring cooling, and in fact, the concept is to heat it to keep it at 270 K. It would have on the order of a 10-meter aperture, with plan variations ranging from 8 to 16+ meters. Current thoughts aim for a launch in the late 2030s, with deployment at Lagrangian point L2. As of 2020, it consists of two candidate designs:
