AtLAST

(Atacama Large Area Submillimeter Telescope)
(concept for submillimeter survey telescope in Chile)

AtLAST (for Atacama Large Area Submillimeter Telescope) is a concept for a 50m-class submillimeter telescope on the Atacama Desert with a frequency-range similar to that of ALMA, but designed for surveys, incorporating at minimum a 1 square degree field of view (FOV) and 1000 pixel imaging capability. This is a much larger FOV than the Large Millimeter Telescope, which is not oriented to surveys. Exact specifications are still being contemplated. It is similar to the Large Submillimeter Telescope (LST) concept and a merging of the efforts is under consideration.

Note that ATLAST (all capitalized) is also used for an entirely unrelated project: it is the name of one of the two LUVOIR proposals.
