MeerKAT

(Karoo Array Telescope)
(new radio telescope in South Africa)

MeerKAT (aka Karoo Array Telescope) is a radio telescope in South Africa, consisting of an array of 64 13.5-meter antennas offering up to an 8-km baseline. Construction began in 2009, initially with a pilot of 7 12-meter dishes (MPA for MeerKAT Precursor Array, aka KAT-7). MeerKAT science operations with the 13.5-meter antennas began in 2016 with 16, reaching 64 in 2018. MeerLICHT is an automated optical telescope to follow up on MeerKAT's FRB discoveries.
