HETDEX
(Hobby-Everly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment.)
(galaxy survey carried out with HET VIRUS)
HETDEX (for Hobby-Everly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment)
is a galaxy survey to measure the redshift
of a million Lyman-alpha emitters (LAEs) within a range of 1.88 < z < 3.52.
Observation is being carried out on the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET), using
an instrument developed for the purpose, VIRUS
(for Visible Integral-field Replicable Unit Spectrographs).
VIRUS is essentially an integral field spectrograph,
but actually 156 separate small spectrographs fed
by 34944 fibers from the telescope's focal plane.
