The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) is a 24.5 meter adaptive optics, segmented mirror-reflecting extremely large telescope under construction at the Las Campanas Observatory in La Serena, Chile. Mirror construction was active in 2005, site preparation began in 2012, ground construction began in 2015, and operation, is expected in 2025. Planned instruments:
