CRIRES

(Cryogenic Infrared Echelle Spectrometer)
(high resolution IR echelle spectrometer)

CRIRES (Cryogenic Infrared Echelle Spectrometer) is a high spectral-resolution infrared spectrograph on European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (ESO VLT). Its resolution reaches 100,000 in the 1-5 μm range. Among its goals is radial velocity measurements to study binary stars and extra-solar planets. The term CRIRES+ was used for an upgrade to CRIRES that was carried out in 2021, which increased its observation efficiency, widening wavelength-range it can cover in a single observation.
