CfA Redshift Survey

(Center for Astrophysics Redshift Survey)
(1970s-1990s surveys of galaxy redshifts)

The CfA Redshift Survey was a survey of the redshift of galaxies aiming to study the large scale structure of the universe carried out by the Center for Astrophysics (CfA), including the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO). Existing redshift data was assembled, with additional data collected from 1977 through 1982 by the 1.5 meter Tillinghast telescope and by the MMT. A second set of data was collected in 1985 through 1995, the two sets of data known as CfA1 and CfA2.
