barium star

(Ba star)
(star showing unexpected barium lines)

A barium star is a star with atypical barium spectral lines, typically a G-type star or K-type star. They show signs of elements that would normally be synthesized later in their life, if at all. The stars are thought to be the result of binary-star interaction, i.e., mass transfer from a companion in its asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase.
