XRISM
(X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission, XARM, X-ray Astronomy Recovery Mission, ASTRO-H2, ASTRO-H Successor)
(X-ray space telescope launched in 2023)
XRISM (for X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission,
formerly XARM for X-ray Astronomy Recovery Mission)
is a JAXA soft X-ray observatory space mission
with collaboration from NASA and the ESA.
It was launched in September, 2023, along with a JAXA experimental
Moon lander, SLIM (for Smart Lander for Investigating Moon).
XRISM instruments:
Each instrument has its own 45-cm telescope.
XRISM began as ASTRO-H2 aka ASTRO-H Successor,
serving as a replacement for Astro-H (Hitomi), which failed
to reach operational status. XRISM's role is to support
X-ray astronomy through the 2020s until the next round of
major X-ray observatories reach service.
