Virgo Cluster

(nearby large galaxy cluster)

The Virgo Cluster is a nearby large galaxy cluster at the heart of the Virgo Supercluster. It includes a number of galaxies known for a long time, such as M84, M87, and M100 in the Messier Catalog. It comprises 1300 to 2000 member galaxies. The Milky Way is not within it but rather in the Local Group, a group smaller than what is generally termed a galaxy cluster.
