T Pyxidis (T Pyx) is a recurrent nova within the Milky Way
which has erupted three times in the last hundred years, in 1944,
1967, and 2011, the latter which resulted in considerable observation
and research.
It is a binary star that includes a white dwarf and is considered
a potential progenitor for a Type Ia supernova.
Other such Milky-Way recurrent novae include
RS Ophiuchi (RS Oph) which has seven recorded eruptions, 1889 to 2021,
T Coronae Borealis (T CrB) which erupted in 1866 and 1946,
and
IM Normae (IM Nor) which erupted in 1920 and 2002.
