structure formation

(formation of dark matter halos, galaxy clusters, and galaxies)

Structure formation, the development of the large scale structure aka cosmic web, which is central to cosmology, refers to the manner of the formation of dark matter halos, galaxy clusters, and galaxies. Cosmological simulations attempt to duplicate characteristics of the structure formation that are apparent from cosmological observation such as redshift surveys and surveys of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Lambda-CDM model is the current cosmological model considered to be the best fit with the universe's actual evolution. Modeling Lambda-CDM's structure formation attempts to work out the model's implications and to explore adjustments to the model that might more-closely match observational-data.
