SAMPEX

(Solar Anomalous and Magnetospheric Particle Explorer, Explorer 68, SMEX-1)
(1990s small satellite collecting solar wind and cosmic rays)

SAMPEX (for Solar Anomalous and Magnetospheric Particle Explorer) was a NASA Small Explorer Program (SMEX) satellite to study anomalous cosmic rays (ACRs), solar energetic particles (SEPs), and Earth's magnetosphere. It was the first SMEX mission (thus SMEX-1), launched into low Earth orbit in 1992. NASA operated it until 2004, after which it was operated by interested parties until its 2012 reentry. Instruments:

All these detected various ions and other charged particles, of interest regarding Earth's magnetosphere and space weather.
