The Nice model (pronounced to rhyme with peace,
for Nice, France, where the model was developed in 2005)
is a model of the history of the solar system regarding
the dynamics of the planets.
It aims to explain the position of the planets
and other solar system features such as the asteroid belt,
the Kuiper Belt, and the Oort Cloud, as well as
the solar system's late heavy bombardment (LHB).
It theorizes an outward planetary migration of the four
giant planets, triggered by interactions with a much larger
population of comet-like planetoids just beyond the planets
forming a much larger and more massive belt than currently
present.
