MOST (Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope) is
a radio telescope in Hoskinstown, Australia (near Canberra).
It is currently out of service, retired in June 2023.
It is a c1980 rebuilding of the earlier 1960s Molonglo Cross Telescope,
which was cross-shaped, with north-south and east-west arms.
MOST reconfigured that into twin 778-meter east-west
cylindrical telescopes, 15 meters' separated.
More recently, MOST underwent two substantial upgrades, termed
UTMOST and UTMOST-2D (which went back to a cross-shaped form),
aiming to find and study radio transients, such as fast radio bursts (FRBs) and pulsars.
Among the surveys carried out on MOST is SUMSS, the
Sydney University Molonglo Sky Survey.
