A mock catalog is a catalog based upon simulated astronomy, e.g., a seeming-catalog of stars in a simulated galaxy or globular cluster, or a catalog of galaxies in a simulated galaxy cluster. Such a catalog allows evaluation of the model used to build it, as well as evaluation of analysis and detection techniques. Software has been developed that generates such catalogs on demand, using given criteria.
