A magnetic arcade (or solar arcade) is a glowing tube-like configuration of magnetic-flux on the surface of the Sun that is sometimes associated with a solar flare or coronal mass ejection. It consists of optical arches (coronal loops, which follow magnetic field lines arching off the Sun and back), arranged in a series so as to form an "arcade" or tunnel-like appearance. It is a particular configuration of such coronal loops, which can expand and result in magnetic reconnection and a solar flare. It can also can also occur following such reconnection.
