(star eclipsed by a body with a ring system)

J1407 (or 1SWASP J140747.93-394542.6 or 1SWASP J140747) is a Sun-like star about 450 light-years away. It came to attention because an eclipse was observed that suggested a companion with a ring system, like that of Saturn but much, much larger (on the order of an AU in diameter, roughly 200 times the diameter of Saturn's ring system). Light-curve patterns of darkening suggested a planet's such rings passing in front of the star. It was hypothesized that this ring system was that of an extra-solar planet hosted by the star (which has been called J1407b), but it is also hypothesized to have been a passing object such as a free-floating planet, and study continues. The star was discovered by SuperWASP. Characteristics:
