Hiltner Telescope

(2.4-meter reflector telescope at MDM observatory)

The Hiltner Telescope is a 2.4-meter reflector telescope, the largest telescope of MDM Observatory, which is adjacent to Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. (MDM Observatory belongs to a consortium of universities, "MDM" standing for the three institutions which originally formed it, Michigan, Dartmouth, and MIT.) The Hilton Telescope went into operation in 1986. Among the instruments used on it is "TIFKAM" (for "The Instrument Formerly Known as Mosaic", renamed to avoid confusion with some other instrument named Mosaic), an infrared imager/spectrometer which is also known as OSMOS (for "Ohio State Multi-object Spectrograph") when used on another telescope.
