HATNet
(Hungarian Automated Telescope Network, HAT)
(distributed array of telescopes to search for transients)
HATNet (Hungarian Automated Telescope Network)
is a set of automated (robotic) telescopes to search for
transiting planets.
HAT-1, which began operation in 2001
at Konkoly Observatory in Budapest,
originally with a 512 × 768 CCD
and later upgraded to a 65-mm aperture telescope with
a field of view of 8 degrees by 8 degrees,
with a 2k×2k CCD.
Currently, HATNet consists of 7 telescopes
at Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory (FLWO) and Mauna Kea Observatories (MKO).
A further effort, HAT-South is six telescopes
in Australia, Namibia, and Chile.
As of 2020, each of the two efforts has discovered on the order
of 70 extra-solar planets.
