(rope-shaped structure in magnetic fields associated with coronal mass ejections)
A flux rope is a rope-shaped configuration of magnetic flux
topology associated with some of the Sun's coronal mass ejections (CMEs).
It consists of flux lines twisted around a central
tube-shaped space. Such flux ropes can also occur in the Earth's
magnetic field.
