Fermi
(FGST, GLAST, Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope)
(satellite for studying gamma rays)
Fermi (i.e., the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope or FGST,
formerly the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope or GLAST)
is a NASA space telescope for observing gamma rays.
Fermi was launched in 2008, is still operational as of 9/2024,
and has the potential to continue operating for another decade or more.
Instruments:
- Large Area Telescope (LAT, referred to as Fermi-LAT, used for the LAT All-sky Survey)
- Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM).
The LAT survey has assisted in finding gamma-ray pulsars,
a good number of which are millisecond pulsars.
