DECIGO

(Deci-hertz Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory)
(proposed Japanese space mission to detect gravitational waves)

DECIGO (for Deci-hertz Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory) is a proposed Japanese space mission to detect gravitational waves (GWs) by measuring the distance between three spacecraft using laser interferometry. It is similar to the ESA LISA proposal, but on a smaller scale, i.e., with 1000 km arms, designed for a sensitivity to GWs in the 0.1 to 10 Hz frequency-range, a range not covered by the current ground gravitational-wave detectors or the LISA proposal. Recent versions of the DECIGO proposal specify four such triangles of three arms each, incorporating twelve spacecraft in all. B-DECIGO is a further-scaled-down version with 100 km arms, proposed as a pilot mission.
