DECaLS

(DECam Legacy Survey)
(survey imaging part of SDSS footprint with DECam)

DECaLS (for DECam Legacy Survey) was a photometric survey using DECam (Dark Energy Camera) of the Víctor M. Blanco Telescope. It imaged substantial portion of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) survey fields using a larger-class telescope, for identifying galaxies out to a larger redshift. Prior to DECaLS, some of the SDSS survey fields had already been surveyed using DECam; DECaLS was specifically to similarly-observe the rest of the SDSS survey fields. The goal was to identify galaxies (out to z = 2) and their halos and to publicly release the resulting catalog.
