Cygnus-X
(well-studied massive SF region)
Cygnus-X is a large star-forming region within the constellation,
Cygnus. It is largely behind a dark nebula, the Cygnus Rift
(aka the Great Rift and other names), a dust cloud
that obscures the galactic center and mid-galactic disk.
Cygnus-X is not visible and is studied using infrared
and longer wavelengths.
It is on the order of 1.4 kpc distant and 200 pc in diameter.
It includes many YSOs and OB stars.
These imply recent star formation, which is presumed
to have begun on the order of 10 million years ago and continues.
