(Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events)
(experiment to sense neutrinoless double beta decay)
CUORE (for Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events)
is a physics experiment consisting of a particle interaction
detector, primarily aimed at detecting
neutrinoless double beta decay within a tellurium sample,
specifically 130Te.
Detecting this would determine
that neutrinos are Majorana particles, i.e.,
they are their own antiparticles.
The detector also has the potential to detect other
particle interactions of astrophysical interest such as
WIMPs or axions.
