(CGRO, GRO) (1990s space observatory for gamma ray observation)

The Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO or GRO) was a spacecraft observing gamma rays. It was launched in 1991 and functioned until 2000. Instruments include:

BATSE - Burst and Transient Source Experiment.
OSSE - Oriented Scintillation Spectrometer Experiment.
COMPTEL - Imaging Compton Telescope.
EGRET - Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope.

CGRO carried out some surveys and caught gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) including a very strong burst in early 1999.
