Cosmic Background Imager
(CBI)
(radio telescope in Chile observing the CMB)
The Cosmic Background Imager (CBI) was a
microwave telescope at the
Llano de Chajnantor Observatory
in the Atacama Desert in Chile, aimed at
studying the cosmic microwave background (CMB).
It was an interferometer with
thirteen antennas in a close-packed array.
It was in operation from 1999 to 2008.
The Cosmic Background Imager 2 (CBI2) was a proposed
upgrade.
