Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams

(CBAT)
(organization reporting transients and discoveries)

The Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (CBAT) is an organization that offers reports (termed CBETs, for Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams) of current discoveries of interest, including recent transients and minor planet discoveries. At some cost to cover operations, CBETs are available by e-mail and from a web archive at CBAT's website. CBETs have been published since 2002. Also, from 1922 to 2017, CBAT published IAU Circulars (IAUCs), occasional reports that each include some recent discoveries of interest, sent by mail, then more recently also by e-mail; some are archived on CBAT's website. CBAT has been at Harvard University since 1965; it began in Germany in 1882 and relocated to Copenhagen in 1922.
