Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey

(CANDELS)
(early-universe survey by HST)

The Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS) was a survey in the near infrared of high-redshift galaxies and Type Ia supernovae. It was carried out with HST's WFC3 sensor for near infrared as well as its optical ACS camera. Observation data was gathered on many early galaxies and supernovae, for investigating the shape of space, i.e., degree of expansion as well as map the density variations. More than 250,000 galaxies were imaged, spanning redshifts 1.5 to 8.
