electron degenerate matter

(dense matter such as that in white dwarf)

Electron degenerate matter (sometimes abbreviated EDM) is matter showing electron degeneracy, and is the state of matter within a white dwarf or a massive stellar core. The state naturally occurs under a very high pressure and density, but not as high as that which results in neutron degenerate matter, the substance within a neutron star. In both these, pressure and density do not have the familiar ideal-gas-law relationship to temperature.
