CRIRES

(Cryogenic Infrared Echelle Spectrometer)
(high resolution IR echelle spectrometer)

CRIRES (Cryogenic Infrared Echelle Spectrometer) is a high spectral-resolution infrared spectrograph on European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (ESO VLT). Its resolution reaches 100,000 in the 1-5 μm range. Among its goals is radial velocity measurements to study binary stars and extra-solar planets.

An upgrade to CRIRES (termed CRIRES+) saw first light in early 2021, with operation expected to begin in October 2021.
