WEAVE
(WHT Enhanced Area Velocity Explorer)
(multi-object spectrograph on the WHT)
WEAVE (for WHT Enhanced Area Velocity Explorer)
is a wide-field multi-object spectrograph
installed on the William Herschel Telescope (WHT) for surveys.
It takes the spectrum of over 900 objects
simultaneously across a two degree field of view.
It offers various wavelength ranges between 370 and 1000 nm,
and offers a spectral resolutions up to 20,000.
My impression is most of its time is to be dedicated to one or more
surveys for which it is designed, with a lesser amount for individual
projects.
WEAVE saw first light in October 2022, underwent commissioning
into 2023, and began science observation in late 2023.
