WEAVE

(WHT Enhanced Area Velocity Explorer)
(multi-object spectrograph being installed on the WHT)

WEAVE (for WHT Enhanced Area Velocity Explorer) is a wide-field multi-object spectrograph in development for the William Herschel Telescope (WHT) for surveys. It is designed to take the spectrum of over 900 objects simultaneously across a two degree field of view. It offers various wavelength ranges between 370 and 1000 nm, and offers a spectral resolutions up to 20,000. My impression is most of its time will be dedicated to one or more surveys for which it is designed, with a lesser amount for individual projects. As of 2023, WEAVE commissioning is in progress with the goal to complete it before the end of the year.
