Uppsala General Catalogue

(UGC, UGCG, Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies)
(1973 catalog of galaxies visible from northern hemisphere)

The Uppsala General Catalogue (UGC or the Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies) is a 1973 catalog of 12000 galaxies visible from the northern hemisphere. It intended to include every galaxy with an arcminute diameter and an apparent magnitude of +14.5 or brighter. Much of the data is from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS), which was carried out in the 1950s. An addendum (the Uppsala General Catalogue Addendum, UGCA) was published in 1974.
