(Survey and Time-domain Astrophysical Research Explorer)
(plan for a future X-ray space telescope)
STAR-X (for Survey and Time-domain Astrophysical Research Explorer)
is a plan for a NASAMIDEX (Medium-class Explorer Program)
mission consisting of a soft X-raytelescope
with a 1 square degreefield of view,
capable of observing X-ray transients,
presuming launch in the 2020s.
An initiative produced the concept, which in 2023 was being
promoted for 2024 selection for a late 2020s mission,
but it was not selected.
Regardless, some future X-ray telescope may well
borrow or build on the ideas developed.
