A solar particle event (SPE) is a
space-weather episode consisting of a higher-than-usual velocity
of solar wind, something that can result from a coronal mass ejection (CME) or
solar flare. It can include protons with sufficient velocity to
be a danger to spacecraft and humans in space (SEPs),
and to produce a proton aurora.
