SMC X-1
(high-mass X-ray binary with X-ray pulsar)
SMC X-1 is an X-ray pulsar that is part of an
eclipsing HMXB (high-mass X-ray binary),
found in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) in 1971 in Uhuru data.
It is of interest for being very luminous, and for its
changes over time, which include disappearances/appearances of pulses,
of X-ray bursts, and of changes in its orbital period and
rotation period. It is presumed to be undergoing substantial
accretion.
