star-formation rate stellar-mass ratio

(stellar-mass star-formation rate ratio)
(ratio between a galaxy's stellar mass and its SF rate)

The galaxy star formation rate stellar-mass ratio (or stellar-mass star-formation rate ratio depending upon how a writer wishes to deal with the ratio) is of interest in star formation history. A situation has persisted where simulations tend to show a galaxy that is twice as big generally having an absolute star-formation rate (mass per unit time) that is twice as big, and that this property remains over time. Actual observation shows star-formation rates at about redshift 2 were much higher (peak star-formation epoch). There is research interest in discovering the physics of this apparent evolution, with the hope that improved future simulations will generally match observations.
