SCALES
(Slicer Combined with Array of Lenslets for Exoplanet Spectroscopy)
(Keck instrument under development to directly observe exoplanets)
SCALES (for Santa Cruz Array of Lenslets for Exoplanet Spectroscopy)
is an imager and integral field spectrograph
with built-in coronagraph under development for Keck II.
It is intended to observe extra-solar planets, i.e., high-contrast direct imaging
and spectroscopy.
SCALES is expected to achieve first light in 2026.
It will eventually use an upgraded Keck II AO system,
HAKA (for High Order Advanced Keck Adaptive optics) deformable mirror.
