A radiative transfer code (RT code) is a computer routine to solve the equations describing radiative transfer (equation of radiative transfer), i.e., the propagation of energy from electromagnetic radiation passing through an atmosphere (gas or plasma) including the effects of absorption, emission, and scattering. The equations are sufficiently complex that some computation is necessary, often making some use of tables of pre-calculated or experimental results. Such codes are used for modeling both planets (e.g., Earth meteorology) and stars.
