radio frequency interference

(transmissions in a frequency band under observation)

Radio frequency interference (RFI) is interference in radio astronomy from Earth artificial sources transmitting at the same frequency as is being observed, e.g., for communication, range-finding, etc.

Some specific bands are protected through regulation, but basically all frequencies are of interest so interference is inevitable. Methods of handling RFI include specific filtering, or just flagging data that it is affected by some specific RFI.
