RELIKT-1

(instrument on 1980s Soviet satellite to view the CMB)

RELIKT-1 was an instrument (or experiment) on the USSR satellite, Prognoz 9, launched in 1983. The instrument's purpose was to map radio within the frequency-range of the CMB. It mapped the sky at 37 GHz with an angular resolution of 5.5 degrees, and resulted in the announcement of detection of CMB anisotropies.
