NIRPS

(Near Infrared Planet Searcher)
(near-infrared extension to HARPS spectrograph)

NIRPS (Near Infrared Planet Searcher) is a spectrograph on the ESO 3.6m Telescope at La Silla Observatory (LSO) in Chile. It is essentially a near infrared extension to HARPS, with a spectral resolution capable of detecting radial-velocity-differences down to 1 meter per second. Interest has become high regarding extra-solar planets around red dwarfs, for which infrared spectrography is helpful. First light was announced in April 2022.
